America Bangladesh University initiated a negotiation with the University of Houston Clear Lake, Texas, USA to establish one US model private university in Bangladesh in the year 1997. Both parties agree to open one US model university in the name of America Bangladesh University at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The agreement was signed by the presidents that affiliate the America Bangladesh University with University of Houston Clear Lake, Texas, USA and allows to implement the 2+2 transfer program. Under the program the America Bangladesh University will conduct first two years of the four year degree program and the final two years will be completed in USA and the students will obtain the degree from University of Houston Clear Lake, Texas, USA. The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved the course curriculum and the course plan that was developed with American University and recommended to the Ministry of Education to establish and operate the university in January 1997. The implementation of the plan by America Bangladesh University has established that US model of study can be developed collaborative effort with US university. Through this plan we could be able to train our teachers, academicians, university staff to work in US model of higher education in the country. There are several universities and many more are coming up but only America Bangladesh University can claim to be the first US model university in Bangladesh under the direct guidance and supervision of an American University and its accreditation body in USA.
